Mean-field heat capacity of dilute magnetic alloys

چکیده
Using an asymptotic solution of the M -impurity thermodynamics of a dilute s-d system, the impurity energy and impurity heat capacity ∆C(T ) are derived for dilute magnetic alloys with spin 1/2 and spin 3/2 impurities. The parameters which enter ∆C are adjusted to fit experimental data on impurity heat capacity of CuCr and (La1−xCex) Al2. Agreement is satisfactory for CuCr, at temperatures below 1K, and good for (La1−xCex)Al2. The magnitude of theoretical ∆C(T ) agrees with experiment and does not require scaling as in previous s-d theories. Nonlinear dependence of ∆C(T ) on impurity concentration has been accounted for the first time.

NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE iN DILUTE ALLOYS
The experimental results concerning the electric field gradient and the local magnetic field around substitutional impurities in copper-based dilute alloys have been summarized. Comparing the experimental data with theoretical models we have come to the conclusion that only the first-order quadrupole wipe-out number characteristic of the asymptotic charge density oscillation around the impuriti...
متن کاملMAGNETIC ORDERING IN DILUTE YTb AND YEr ALLOYS
Dilute YEr alloys show the existence of sinusoidaily modulated antiferromagnetism down to the lowest impurity concentrations studied. Extrapolation of the Ndel temperatures for both YEr and YTb suggests a critical concentration is 0.8 % Tb, Er. Ordering in such dilute alloys may result from exchange enhancement in the yttrium host. Following our earlier study of YTb alloys [I], we der contamina...

Theory of magnetoresistance in films of dilute magnetic alloys. Abstract Giordano measured the magnetoresistance of dilute magnetic alloys Au(Fe) films of different thickness. متن کاملQuantitative modeling of the annealing-induced changes of the magnetotransport in Ga1−xMn-x As alloys
We study the changes of magnetoresistance induced by controlled thermal annealing at temperatures ranging from 300 to 600 °C of a Ga0.98Mn0.02As alloy grown by low-temperature molecular beam epitaxy. We use a resistor-network model for describing the electrical transport as a function of temperature and external magnetic field. The model is founded on classical semiconductor band transport and ...
متن کاملResistance minimum and heavy fermions
The phenomenon of the resistance minimum in dilute magnetic alloys is explained in terms of the s-d interaction which takes account of scattering of the conduction electron off the magnetic impurities in metals. Some of the intermetallic compounds which involve rare earth elements or uranium show a very large electronic specific heat and remain non-magnetic even though they show a Curie-like su...
